What Your Ringtone Says About You

Ringtones are very popular these days. It seems no one wants a traditional ring for their mobile phone. People want a ring that is personalized for them. They are creative, expressive and set your phone apart from everyone else's. One thing you may not be aware of is that your ringtone actually gives people an impression of who you are. It sounds crazy, but it's true. Even Forbes magazine did a piece about what different ringtones say about their owners. Sometimes, the sound of your ring is the only thing a person knows about you, so choose wisely. You don't want to make the wrong impression.

A traditional cell phone ring sound tells others that you are too busy to be bothered with something as frivolous as a customized or musical ring. It may also be a signal that you're somewhat conservative and reserved. A classical music ring denotes a certain level of sophistication, or at the least a pretentious attitude depending on the person using it. If you are using a classical music ring you should know something about the piece that you have chosen, such as who the composer is.

Then there are the humorous rings. Examples would be a funny sound or even a humorous song. This is an immediate indication to those around you that one thing you have is a good sense of humor. If your ring is the theme from a popular TV show, it may be a sign that you spend too much time at home watching television. Then there are those who choose popular music for their ring. This says that you keep up with the times and are young at heart even if your teen years have long passed.

As you can see, ringtones reveal more about your personality than you may like. Which is why some people do away with them altogether and put their phone on vibrate. When your phone is set on vibrate, it does not ring but rather shakes rapidly and makes somewhat of a buzzing sound. If your phone is close by you don't have to worry about missing a call because the vibrate option is still quite noticeable. It's not as loud as a ringtone but you will be made aware that a call is coming in.
